The perfect boiled egg | How to boil eggs
PERFECT BOILED EGG – How do you boil your eggs? I always put my eggs in a saucepan before the water starts boiling. It seems that cooking eggs in cold water has it benefits. This will ensure your egg whites remains soft and not rubbery, which also can happen if you cook it for too long.
There is no exact time frame for the perfect boiled egg, only guidelines. There will always be times that your egg is over- or undercooked, because the ‘many’ factors e.g. small & large eggs, cold & room temperature eggs and the many other reasons.
Boiling eggs are always a surprise to me, but every time it makes me smile when it turns out to be perfect. My perfect boiled egg should be runny and shiny.
Directions:
Put the egg(s) in boiling water:
- Soft boiled – simmer for 4 minutes for a runny yolk
- Medium boiled – simmer for 6 minutes for a shiny yolk
- Hard boiled – simmer for 8 minutes for a crumbly yolk
Put the egg(s) in cold water:
- Soft boiled – after boiling simmer for 7 minutes for a runny yolk
- Medium boiled – after boiling simmer for 9 minutes for a shiny yolk
- Hard boiled – after boiling simmer 11 minutes for a crumbly yolk
Eggs from the fridge and put in cold water:
- Soft boiled – after boiling simmer for 10 minutes for a runny yolk
- Medium boiled – after boiling simmer for 12 minutes for a shiny yolk
- Hard boiled – after boiling simmer for 15 minutes for a crumbly yolk
Use a slotted spoon to remove the egg(s) from the water. Rinse the egg with cold water for about 10-15 seconds, this make it easier to peel of the shell.
